Some time ago I posted the following ideas with regards making the bottom rung of each turret 'choice' more akin to the 'Rapid' missile varieties:

While that's only one of a number of possibilities for re-balancing them I'm curious, with the recent progress on 'tiericide', and the move to give dreads HAWs, if there had been any consideration of what to do with the bottom tier turrets?
Generally speaking they still don't present a viable 'choice', more a "oh well, will have to make do, because can't fit XYZ....".

From there, how i would rebalance the low tier versions is reducing the signature resolution of the gun (or giving it much higher tracking). This in effect would give you the choice of:
Do you want the biggest gun with the best damage, but worst tracking (especially against smaller targets)?
Or do i want the smallest gun that can track smaller targets better, but will do less dps against other BS?
This is already somewhat how it is, the lower tiers have less dps/range, but much better tracking. For shooting down a class, they are still a bit lacking, and either a sig resolution reduction of the gun, or more tracking would be a good way to provide options.
I actually do use the lower tier turrets more frequently, especially dual 425 autocannons on things like tornado's and fleet pests. I still get about 700 dps from a 425 nado, but with the falloff bonus, they project like 800mm's, but with better tracking. I'm not quite certain I follow your first point? If you balance in the way I have done in the proposal, you've taken the medium sized turrets (e.g. 250mm railguns) which make the component parts of the 'dual weapons', reduced tracking but increased RoF, finally balancing out clip size to ensure the sustained DPS does not encroach upon 'fully sized' large turrets (e.g. 350mm, 425mm railguns).
In this way providing a genuine choice and opening up new opportunities; e.g. do I want to optimise this Battleship doctrine for fighting in the medium range? risking getting murdered by 'true' large guns, but in the process being able to outfight cruisers? The current low tier guns do not offer that choice as they are in such a poor state - I wasn't kidding when I showed a Dual 250mm has lower base DPS than a 250mm - that is how poor a state they are in, and to top it off, the tracking advantage is too small to be of note.
